1-GRADUATE PROGRAM QUOTAS WHEN ARE THEY ANNOUNCED?
Quotas are generally announced in July and January. When the quotas are determined, they are announced on our Institute's https://sbe.mehmetakif.edu.tr/index.php page.
2-WHEN ARE APPLICATIONS FOR GRADUATE PROGRAMS MADE?
Applications for graduate programs are made on the dates specified in the academic calendar.
3-DO I HAVE TO GRADUATE FROM THE SAME DEPARTMENT TO ENTER MASTER'S PROGRAMS?
Quota proposals for students to be admitted to the programs are determined by the relevant Department Heads. Some Departments also accept graduates from other fields. This situation is explained in the quota announcement.
4-CAN I ATTEND TWO MASTER'S PROGRAMS AT THE SAME TIME?
It is not possible to pursue two graduate studies at the same time.
5-WHERE AND WHEN ARE THE STUDENT ADMISSION EXAMS HELD?
Student admission exams are held in the relevant Departments at the date and time specified in the announcement. According to our regulations, exams are conducted in the form of written and/or oral exams or interview exams.
6-WHERE ARE THE RESULTS ANNOUNCED?
The results are announced on our Institute's https://sbe.mehmetakif.edu.tr page.
7-WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE REQUIRED FOR FINAL REGISTRATION?
The necessary documents are published on our Institute's website https://sbe.mehmetakif.edu.tr.
8-DO I NEED TO BRING THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS?
The original documents to be submitted to our Institute are presented, and their photocopies are approved by us and accepted. The original documents remain with the student.
9-CAN SOMEONE ELSE REGISTER ON MY BEHALF?
Students must apply for registration themselves. However, in mandatory cases, it can also be done by a person with a notary power of attorney.
10-IS THERE A GRADUATION REQUIREMENT FOR APPLICATION?
There is a graduation requirement. Applications made without graduation are considered invalid.
11-WHERE ARE THE CLASSES HELD?
All classes are held in the Faculties to which the relevant Departments are affiliated or in places determined by the instructor who will give the course.
12-IS ATTENDANCE MANDATORY FOR CLASSES?
According to our regulations, to take the exam from the courses taken in graduate programs; there is a requirement to have attended 70% of theoretical courses and 80% of practical courses. The student must meet the attendance requirement to take the semester exam. (Article 51)
13-IN WHAT CASES IS A MAKE-UP EXAM HELD?
Students who have fulfilled the attendance requirement and could not take the midterm exam due to permission are taken to the make-up Midterm Exam. No make-up exams are held for final and make-up exams.
14-CAN NON-THESIS MASTER'S GRADUATES PURSUE A DOCTORATE?
All students who registered for Non-Thesis Master's programs before 06.02.2013 can apply for the Doctorate program. However, students who registered after this date cannot apply for the doctorate program. If the doctorate announcement requires a thesis master's degree, non-thesis master's students cannot apply for the doctorate program.
15-WHEN SHOULD THE CONTRIBUTION FEE BE PAID?
Students who have completed the legal study period must pay their contribution fees on the dates announced on the Institute's website each semester. Thesis Master's after 4 semesters, Doctorate after 8 semesters
16-DO RESEARCH ASSISTANTS PAY THE CONTRIBUTION FEE?
Research Assistants do not pay the contribution fee. (A document proving the place of duty must be presented)
17-CAN I TAKE COURSES FROM ANOTHER UNIVERSITY?
According to Article 46 of our regulations, with the recommendation of the Department and the decision of the Institute's administrative board, a maximum of 2 courses can be taken from another university.
18-IS THERE A TIME LIMIT FOR TRANSFER?
A successful student who has completed at least one semester and has not started the thesis can transfer. Transfer cannot be made at the thesis stage. (Regulation article 41) For transfers, a minimum score of 70 out of 100 for a master's degree and 75 or equivalent for a doctorate is required.
19-CAN I BE EXEMPTED FROM A COURSE TAKEN PREVIOUSLY?
A student can be exempted from graduate courses taken from another institute or as a special student with the recommendation of the Department and the approval of the Institute's Administrative Board. According to Article 47 of our regulations, a maximum of 3 courses can be exempted. Transcript and course contents must be presented in the exemption application.
20-CAN I FREEZE MY REGISTRATION?
There must be a valid excuse to freeze registration, that is, to be considered on leave. (Regulation Article 56) An application is made to the Department Head with a petition. After the petition reaches the Institute, the Institute's Administrative Board examines the situation and decides on the registration freeze request. According to Article 55 of the regulation, registration freeze requests are made within 1 month at the latest from the beginning of the semester.
21-HOW IS THE SUCCESS GRADE OF MIDTERM (VISA) AND SEMESTER-END (FINAL) EXAMS CALCULATED?
- Doctorate: Midterm: 40% Semester-End Exam: 60% Passing Grade: 75
- Thesis Master's: Midterm: 40% Semester-End Exam: 60% Passing Grade: 70
- II. Non-Thesis Master's: Midterm: 40% Semester-End Exam: 60% Passing Grade: 70
- Distance Education Non-Thesis Master's: Midterm: 20% Semester-End Exam: 80% Passing Grade: 70
22-HOW MANY ECTS CREDITS DO I NEED TO GRADUATE FROM GRADUATE EDUCATION?
According to the YÖK Graduate Education and Training Regulation published in the Official Gazette on 20.04.2016, the minimum credit amounts required for graduation are shown below; At least 60 ECTS in Non-Thesis Master's programs, At least 120 ECTS in Thesis Master's programs, At least 240 ECTS in Doctorate programs,
23-I STARTED MY GRADUATE EDUCATION BEFORE THE FALL SEMESTER OF 2016-2017. WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM DURATION OF MY EDUCATION?
Regardless of the start date of graduate education, starting from the fall semester of 2016-2017; The duration of the Non-Thesis Master's program, excluding the time spent in scientific preparation, is two semesters, regardless of whether you register for each semester, and at most three semesters. The duration of the Thesis Master's program, excluding the time spent in scientific preparation, is four semesters, regardless of whether you register for each semester, and at most six semesters. The duration of the Doctorate program, excluding the time spent in scientific preparation, is eight semesters if you are accepted with a thesis master's degree, regardless of whether you register for each semester, and at most twelve semesters. If you fail or cannot complete the program at the end of the periods mentioned above, your relationship with the higher education institution will be terminated.
24-WHEN SHOULD I TAKE THE SEMINAR COURSE(S) DURING MY GRADUATE EDUCATION?
Master's students must take one seminar course during the course period; doctoral students must take two seminar courses.
25-WHEN SHOULD THE MASTER'S/DOCTORATE THESIS DEFENSE EXAMS BE TAKEN?
Thesis defense exams are held until the date when the end-of-term exams specified in the latest academic calendar are completed.
26-WHERE CAN I ACCESS THE THESIS WRITING GUIDELINE?
The thesis writing guideline can be accessed on the Social Sciences Institute website https://sbe.mehmetakif.edu.tr.
27-WHEN CAN I RECEIVE MY DIPLOMA?
Diplomas are prepared and submitted for signature to the Rectorate. The printed diplomas are announced on our website. Diplomas that have been printed in this way can be received from the institute during working hours.
28-CAN SOMEONE ELSE RECEIVE MY DIPLOMA?
A person with a notary power of attorney can apply with the power of attorney and identity card to receive it.
